Finding Purpose in the Journey: How Life’s Trials Led to the Cruise Nightly Winter Warm-Up Growing up, life threw me more than a few curveballs. From tough times as a redhead kid being bullied and fighting to defend myself, to struggles at home with an abusive stepfather, and eventually the devastating loss of my dad to cancer, it seemed like life had it out for me. By 17, I was a homeless alcoholic on the streets of Winnipeg, spiraling further out of control. I hit a turning point when I witnessed a friend get stabbed, I knew I had to leave Winnipeg to hitchhike across Canada. Later, while staying at a homeless shelter in Calgary, I saw someone jump from a high-rise, and that moment shocked me to my core. I realized then that I could easily end up in the same place if I didn’t make a change. One phone call later, I was on a bus back to my grandparents, determined to start fresh. That journey has taken me through ups and downs. I stayed sober, went back to school, married, had kids, and even fell back into alcoholism before I finally broke the cycle two years ago. Now, as the founder and CEO of Cruise Nightly, I’m dedicated to more than just building an app for car enthusiasts—I want to inspire people to face their struggles head-on and show that a rough past doesn’t have to define your future. I’ve walked in the shoes of the homeless. I know that it’s not just about money—it’s about real connections, empathy, and opportunities. If you see someone struggling, remember that kindness and a moment of genuine conversation can mean the world to them. My goal with Cruise Nightly isn’t just to unite car lovers; it’s to use this platform to bring people together, share stories, and remind us all of the power we have to help lift each other up. We’re collecting donations of non-perishable food items, warm clothing, blankets, and other essentials to support the homeless and those struggling this winter. Bring your ride, bring your friends, and bring what you can to help those in need. Every small donation—whether it’s a warm jacket, canned goods, or even a pair of gloves—makes a huge difference.
